Working on AP Portfolios (Drawing, 2D and 3D Designs Portfolios)
This course will help you work on Advanced Placement Portfolios and have them ready for submission to College Board for evaluation. You will also participate in Art workshops and field trips that focus on step-by-step demonstrations to help you build an advanced Visual Arts and Media Design skill set. The Portfolio Studio is a great opportunity for students working in all artistic disciplines such as, though not limited to, visual arts, film, music, jewelry, fashion, graphic design, animation, and game design. We will be working together on developing your Drawing Portfolios, AP 2-D, and 3-D Portfolios.

The final assessment for AP Studio Art Portfolios is not based on a written exam; instead, students submit portfolios for evaluation at the end of the school year. All AP portfolios are assessed on the Quality in a student’s work and Sustained Investigation of materials, processes, and ideas. The student’s work should reflect these two areas of concern: quality and sustained investigation through a 15 piece body of work.

AP Studio Art: 3-D Design is intended for highly motivated students who are seriously interested in sculptural issues. In the 3D Design Portfolio, students are asked to demonstrate their understanding of design principles as they relate to the integration of depth and space, volume and surface. Students are able to show an enduring understanding of 3-D design through any three-dimensional approach, including, but not limited to, figurative or nonfigurative sculpture, ceramics, glass work, assemblage, and 3-D fabric/fiber arts. AP portfolios are assessed on (1) a sense of quality in a student’s work; (2) the student’s concentration on a particular visual interest or problem; and (3) the student’s need for breadth of experience in the formal, technical and expressive means of the artist. The student’s work should reflect these three areas of concern: quality, concentration and breadth.
